Art Of The State News - London /// Ben Eine and RYCA in Hackney

Monday, July 26th, 2010

Feet firmly on the ground Ben Eine teamed up with RYCA yesterday to paint these new hoardings in Hackney, East London. With a font comprised entirely of dots with smiley faces it turned into a marathon session with Ben choosing the wording 'The Strangest Week' as a fitting comment on 7 days which saw one of his paintings gifted to President Obama and hung in the White House. Around the corner RYCA opted for the more simple but effective 'Power Up.'. It was rewarding to see how favourably their work was viewed by passers by. Even the Police stopped and had ... Art Of The State News - London /// Ben Eine’s gift to President Obama

Wednesday, July 21st, 2010

Yes you read that headline right. In a strange turn of events that probably has left Ben Eine thinking he may have entered a parallel universe a painting of his has apparently ended up in the mits of US President Barack Obama via David Cameron and his wife Samantha. ‘Twentyfirstcenturycity' by Ben was given as part of a gift exchange between the two men after Ben was asked and he "had a bit of think about it and thought: yeah, I suppose so". According to the Times he added "I would definitely not have done it for Bush".

It's ... (Read more...)

Art Of The State News - London /// Alphabet Street

Wednesday, June 16th, 2010

Been a while since the last post. Partly because I’ve been taking a bit of time out and partly because there’s been nothing going on. Well, except for Eine painting an entire new alphabet in just one street! Lower case all the way, it turns a road off the city into an amazing cartoon like world when the shops finally shut for the night.

Art Of The State News - London /// Escif show at Pictures On Walls

Monday, April 12th, 2010

If you’ve seen Banksy’s Exit Through The Gift Shop or even just the new extended trailer for the film you’ll have seen one of the funniest moments – graffiti artist Escif getting arrested in quite ridulculous head gear while painting a wall. Other (slightly more calm) moments can be seen on his youtube channel which can be found here. The good news is that he’s still at large and Pictures On Walls are shortly bringing him over from Spain for a solo show (‘Around The Wall’) at their Commercial Street premises in Aldgate. The event runs from 17th April ... (Read more...)

Art Of The State News - London /// A look around Roa’s show at the Pure Evil gallery

Friday, April 9th, 2010

Roa’s work translates easily from the streets to a gallery setting and this show in the small but perfectly formed Pure Evil Gallery in Shoreditch is one of the finest I've seen in a long time. Featuring a pretty unique interactive element many of the artworks can be flipped open or closed to reveal the different states of their animals decay or their vital organs. And with a cleverly layed out range of site specific works, art pieces for sale and a room full of photos of his work in situ the space it's a show that London really needs right now to give ... Art Of The State News - London /// Roa show opens at Pure Evil Gallery tonight

Wednesday, April 7th, 2010

Over the past year Roa has been, in my humble opinion, smashing it worldwide. So its great to see that he has his first solo show in London opening on Thursday night (April 8th) at the Pure Evil Gallery.

Art Of The State News - London /// Last chance to see the Eelus show

Friday, March 5th, 2010

Saturday March 6th is the last day (and last chance) to see Eelus‘s solo show ‘The Colour Out Of Space’ at the Blackall Studios (73 Leonard Street, EC2A 4DS). I finally managed to check out the gallery yesterday and was really impressed by the ideas, art and execution of a well put together body of work. As well as a wealth of major new pieces there is kind of a retrospective feel – basically everything Eelus has put out over the past few years is represented here in some way. It’s great to see the progression made over the ... (Read more...)
