Matthew Lyons Illustration Blog /// Kitsune Noir Desktop Wallpaper

Saturday, January 30th, 2010

This is for the Kitsune Noir Desktop Wallpaper Project. I always use the wallpapers on there so I was a keen man when Bobby asked if I could assemble one. I quite like wallpapers to be fairly barren and thought of the idea which he gracefully quotes in the text beneath.
You can download the wallpaper here, thanks Bobby!

Friday, January 29th, 2010

“There’s a flip side to everything,” the saying goes, and in 2 minutes, Derek Sivers shows this is true in a few ways you might not expect.

KN | Kitsune Noir /// ‘Vanishing Point’ by Bonsajo

Friday, January 29th, 2010

Sticking with this futuristic vibe today I’ve got a really short but amazing little video from the folks at Bonsajo, a Japanese “visual performance unit”. The video features a bunch of random shapes being blown apart and smashed together, morphing in and out of each other and all kinds of crazy things happening. I could honestly watch something like this for hours. Can someone make a screensaver like this for? You’d be my god.

I also really like that they presented it in a square format, something you don’t always see. I think it’s fun when people play with ... (Read more...)

Art Of The State News - London /// David Cameron’s NHS poster – The Route One Approach

Tuesday, January 26th, 2010

David Cameron's "I'll Cut The Deficit, Not The NHS" poster campaign is annoying in the extreme. The adverts just scream 'do something to me'. Even people fully intending to vote conservative often have a problem with Cameron.

Now you could think of something intellectual and modify the wording on the poster. Hell, you could even spend hours cutting an intricate stencil juxtaposing him with a hoodie and a bottle of Bollinger to make a point. Or you could spend 20 seconds writing ‘Fuck Off Back To Eton’ in red spray paint across the bottom.

Job done I think.

Roll on the ... (Read more...)

RASMUS BRØNNUM - en Arkitektur Blog /// Magic Highway USA (1958)

Tuesday, January 26th, 2010

TEDTalks (video) /// Joshua Prince-Ramus: Building a theater that remakes itself – Joshua Prince-Ramus (2009)

Tuesday, January 26th, 2010

Joshua Prince-Ramus believes that if architects re-engineer their design process, the results can be spectacular. Speaking at TEDxSMU, Dallas, he walks us through his fantastic re-creation of the local Wyly Theater as a giant “theatrical machine” that reconfigures itself at the touch of a button.

Minimalissimo /// Shadow Chair

Saturday, January 23rd, 2010

At first glance, this chair seems to defy gravity, by standing upright while only having two front legs.

It is only on closer inspection that you see that the shadow is part of the chair, and made from steel, which is attached to a metal frame built inside the chair: the chair is resting on its own shadow.

This Shadow Chair is a design of Chris Duffy of Duffy London, a British design firm producing furniture, lighting and interior products.

Cool Infographics /// What Causes Jet Lag? (Infographic)

Friday, January 22nd, 2010

Matt Kursmark designed this infographic series about circadian rhythms and What Causes Jet Lag as an assignment in his information graphics class at Ohio State University.

These panels are the result of my third year information graphics class. The assignment was to choose any sequence, cycle, or evolution and represent it graphically. The information was to be presented in two separate panels that were related but could also function independently of one another.  On the first panel, I chose to represent the circadian rhythm cycle and how they normally work. On the second panel, I presented how circadian rhythms ... (Read more...)

KN | Kitsune Noir /// The Real Good Experiment by Blu Dot

Wednesday, January 20th, 2010

I’ve been on kind of a video binge lately, and this is what started it all. On Thursday, I think I’m going to post nothing but videos for the day, but that’s besides the point. I remember hearing about this little experiment a few months back that Blu Dot, a store that sells high-end design furniture, would be giving away 25 chairs in random locations scattered throughout New York. The buzz on Twitter alone was pretty exciting. But as it turned out, they had much more in mind, what they called The Real Good Experiment.

They ended up ... (Read more...)
